How can I delete, remove or edit my posts?
Currently there is no way to delete or edit posts. The main reason for this is that the majority of people receive the posts by email. And because you can't change an email once it has been sent, any changes to posts would only be seen by the few people who view posts on the site instead of in their email.
Posts are automatically removed from the listings after 30 days.
If you want to remove one of your posts because it's an Offer that has been claimed or a Want that has been received, you can follow the instructions at the links below to do this:
How can I prevent no-shows?
When someone arranges to come and pickup an item you're offering and then doesn't show up, it can be very annoying. Here are a few tips that long-time freecyclers use to reduce no-shows:
- Don't simply choose the first person to respond. Gather a few replies and choose someone who you think is most likely to show up.
- In your Offer posts, ask people to provide dates and times that they can pickup and their phone number. This makes it easy to eliminate people who don't provide this information.
- If you ask for a phone number, it also makes it easy to remind people about the pickup and find out what's happening if they are late.
How do I mark my Offer post and/or items as taken?
Go to the Your Posts page and click on the Offer post that contains the item(s) that you want to mark as taken. Click the button or link labelled "Mark as Taken" that is below the post title and fill out and submit the form. This will remove your old Offer post from the group listings.
If you offered multiple items in one Offer post and only one or two of the items have been taken, you should instead go to the New Post page and submit a Taken post that only lists the items that were taken in the item description and details fields.
Note: Even after marking an item as taken, you may continue to get emails about it because often people read the Offers in their email and don't check if an Offer is taken before replying to the email.
How do I mark my Want request as received?
Go to the Your Posts page and click on the Want post that you want to mark as received. Click the button or link labelled "Mark as Received" that is below the post title and fill out and submit the form. This will remove your old Want post from the group listings.
If you requested multiple items in one Want post and only one or two of the items have been received, you should instead go to the New Post page and submit a Received post that only lists the items that were received in the item description and details fields.
How do I post an Offer or a Want?
To offer or request items from your local groups, simply fill out and submit the new post form. You can find links to the new post form near the top right side of the All Posts page, the Your Posts page and the daily digest email. Please note that most posts have to be approved by volunteer group moderators (separately for each group) and so posts will not instantly show up on your groups after you submit them.
Also, make sure you've read the group notices from your groups before posting. Most groups have rules that restrict certain items or limit the frequency and number of items you can request.
How do I repost?
First, view your old post on the site. You can find your old post by going to the Your Posts page and clicking on the title of the post that you want to repost.
Once you are viewing your post, you should see a button or link labelled "Repost" below the post title if enough time has passed since the first time you made the post (different groups have different restrictions on how often you can repost). Once you click the repost button, it will automatically fill in the new post form with the correct information and then you just have to click the Submit button.
Alternatively, you can simply fill out and submit the new post form manually. The repost button just saves you some time. There's no real difference between a repost and the original post so you can choose whichever method you prefer.
- When I try to post, the submit button doesn't do anything!
Why are some posts mis-categorized?
Some people post by email and don't remember to format their emails correctly. This makes it really hard for the site to automatically figure out the post type and sometimes results in mis-categorized posts.
Why isn't my post showing up on my groups?
Many groups moderate posts (especially posts from new members). This means that your posts have to be approved by the volunteer group moderators for each group you post to before they will show up on the group.
Depending on how active the group moderators are, it can take anywhere from a few minutes up to a day before a moderator approves your post.
In rare cases, moderators may reject your posts because the posts don't follow the rules of the group. When this happens, the moderators will usually send you an email explaining why a post was rejected. You can read up on each group's rules on the Group Notices page.
