Brown leather. Has been in the family for decades, but all the use has taken a bit of a toll. Still VERY comfortable, but the springs are old and the cushion seam has come apart on the underside. If you want to invest in having the cushion sewn up, this would be a very nice chair! But in its current state (and we've been using it like this for years) it's suitable for a den, college dorm, etc.
