Real Robots (Lochgelly KY5)

Real Robots was the name of a fortnightly magazine by Eaglemoss Publications, established in May, 2001. Developed in partnership with Reading University, it allowed the reader to build a robot, "Cybot", and later a companion robot, "Tom".

Included here are the full set of 96 magazines which explain how to build and program the robots (due to the ‘plug-in’ nature of the robots, they can be dismantled and rebuilt if preferred), and both the fully built robots ‘Cybot’ and ‘Tom’ and the handset and headset from which they can be remote controlled.

A few of the magazines (numbers 77, 78, 80, 81 and 86) have sustained some water damage, but the detail of the damaged pages can be gleaned from the other magazines, or replacements can be purchased cheaply on Ebay.

Also included are seven CDs that contain the programming language and a simulator that may be used to try out the programs before downloading them to the robots.
The robots can be programmed to do many things such as find their way around a room using AI, avoiding obstacles; follow a light such as a torch; play a ‘football’ game, where they locate a ball then find a goalmouth and score a goal. They use sonar or light-sensitive diodes to move around, and can be voice-controlled.

This is a wonderful set to teach children (or adults!) to program using visual ‘blocks’ (see photo), which is much easier than writing code.
Also included are many spare parts that can be used to change the ‘skin’ of the robots to make them look like a racing car.

With the exception of the few magazines mentioned above, everything is in excellent condition and will give someone many hours of enjoyable, learning fun.
