I believe the material is a thick, compressed wood.

Two hinges have become completely detached from the main body of the table, and a third has begun to pop off.

I believe this happened because something was pressing on the table from either side while it was in storage - not from general use. You might be able to screw them back in or get replacement hinges from the hardware store.

I coated it in polyurethane in an effort to protect the surface from regular cleaning and use during the pandemic. The surface looks a little worn and rough, particularly around the edges. A couple edges of the tabletop are peeling.
