Fishing rod. Reel and equipment (Carlisle)

I would like to take up fishing as a hobby, iv always used friends equipment before but with working full time it's difficult however now the kids have grown up, I find days off quite dull. Though because of my schedule I can't really fit with friends schedules to fish. And being a solo income it seems unaffordable. Does anyone have anything that may help me on my way. It would be put to good use.
