Yarn suitable for Crochet (Wootton OX13)

Hi, I've just started learning how to crochet and I've got some yarn from a beginner's kit to start me off, but if anyone has any scraps of yarn, patterns that are no longer wanted or anything else that might help me enjoy this learning curve, I'd be very grateful. Many thanks, Toni
