Books are easily contaminated with the increasingly toxic chemicals found in everyday products for things like laundry, general cleaning, air "freshening," lawn care, and body care. These can cause all sorts of health problems, many of which can go undetected for a long time. If your household uses conventional products, getting low-toxin books won't do much good, because the toxins from the products will soon get into the paper. Since books cannot be washed, even "a little" contamination usually means that they are contaminated permanently.
