Do you maintain an alpine / rock garden? LARGE eastern opuntia "prickly pear" cactus available in the Riverdale area of the Bronx. Thrives in NYC climate outdoor all year round, but needs blazing FULL SUN for many hours of the day. This cactus is dangerous - not suitable for a garden with children. The cactus needles are nearly invisible, and very hard to extract once attached. However, if you like cactus, this beast is pretty cool. I put it outside last fall after 6 months of near total desiccation and destruction in the mailroom lobby (where it was a danger), and I ignored it all winter. It tripled its size since then. I put my (adult) flip flop next to it so you can see how big this thing is. You'll need to transport it to your wheelbarrow or vehicle. And you'll need protective gear to pick it up. (I'm really promoting this thing, aren't I?) But, really - for the right person, this is a prize! :)
