various sizes of suckers from a foot or so to a couple of meters. The smaller, the more likely to survive. Autumn's a good time to transplant. Here's what the RHS says about it.

BE AWARE. 1> if they like their situation, they WILL sucker. Not really a problem to pull up.
2. The only weed seed that might travel with them is Enchanter's Nightshade, but, if you're aware and on the case, then you can control it as i have done in the patches where I don't want it. From the RHS again:
