wooden lattice scraps (Orleans)

Trying to attach something to the openings under the front my night table bottom decorative openings and our buffet front to block a curious one year old cat from going underneath. She made it in and out as a kitten. Now she is bigger so she gets under and can't turn around to get back out. I think if we paint the lattice black and attached it from the inside, it won't look too silly. Much appreciated.
