Mittens from 2010 Olympics (Riverdale)
Gifted
62d
- A friend who worked at the Olympic Village in Vancouver bought these for me. Women's medium, I estimate? They are used but in fairly good shape. The mitt on left side of second photo has one small ripped stitch, could probably be mended. Porch pickup near Danforth & Chester.

Ecover Delicate Wash (Riverdale)
Gifted
66d
- For hand laundering wool, silk, etc. This particular formula is discontinued but you can read about it at or . I bought 2 bottles a long time ago, much more than I need. To be honest, I don't like the "naturally derived" fragrance that they called "tulip." (Since when do tulips have fragrance?) It does a good job and I think the brand is reliable. Porch pickup near Danforth & Pape.
Free:
picture frames (Riverdale)
Gifted
75d
- 5 pine wood frames, display area a bit less than 9" x 12". (Also a 6th frame but the glass is missing.) The stained cardboard backs could easily be replaced with clean cardboard. (The stains seen in photos resulted from glue that my sister used for colored construction paper "mats," 50+ years ago. ) They can be painted. Good for framing kids' artwork?

Sorel Manitou boots, ladies' size 9 (Riverdale)
Gifted
75d
- These are probably Unisex but fwiw they fit my ladies' size 9 feet comfortably. Made in Canada. I've had these for at least 30 years. The outers are indestructible but ... NOTE 1: The wool felt liners are totally worn out and Sorel's website has replacements in only 1 size that's waaaay too big. You can find alternative replacements by searching for "wool felt boot liners." (Size selection might be better in the fall?) HOWEVER, NOTE 2: Customer reviews at sorel.com, llbean.ca, and marks.com show several dissatisfied customers who bought liners that didn't fit. MY CONCLUSION = wear extra-thick socks instead, plus maybe a pair of felt insoles. Porch pickup near Danforth & Pape.
Free:
3 x single phone jack microfilters (Riverdale)
82d
- Three "corded distributed single jack microfilters." I believe these were required with analog phone jacks to prevent interference between land line and (DSL?) computer or fax modems. Porch pickup near Danforth & Chester.
Free:
decorative wall clock (unreliable!) (Riverdale)
Gifted
88d
- This pretty ceramic wall clock measures 10.5 inches x 7.5 inches. It takes one AA battery. Unfortunately it doesn't keep very good time. I think one or more hands got a bit bent because I remember the second hand used to get stuck against the minute hand. Porch pickup near Danforth & Chester.

3 self-adhesive photo boards (Riverdale)
Gifted
108d
- These are like giant pages from a photo album -- slightly tacky backing holds photos in place, then you lay the clingy plastic film over them. Good for things like birthday parties, anniversaries etc. for example to display childhood photos, wedding photos. Does not harm the pictures. Poster sized, 22" x 28", total of 3 in protective box.

Free:
4 short bungee cords (Riverdale)
Gifted
113d
- I don't know what someone would use these for. They are approx. 1 foot long and not very stretchy so I don't think they would work with garbage or compost bins. (City workers don't want bungee cords on our bins anyway as they can be hazardous. I've seen collectors remove them and throw them in the truck with the garbage.)
Free:
hand sanitizer, 80% ethyl alcohol (Riverdale)
Expired
117d
- I think I got this giant (1L) bottle as a bonus at Home Hardware early in the pandemic. Two glitches = 1. It's much more viscous (i.e. thicker) than brands like Purell. 2. A small piece broke off the squirt cap so you need to unscrew the top to access the gel. If no one wants it I can try walking it over to my local Out of the Cold program.
Free:
Baby powder (for garden use?) (Riverdale)
Gifted
119d
- Almost full. I know baby powder is no longer recommended for young children (see ) or maybe even adults, but Google and Youtube suggest some horticultural hacks including using it to deter ants, rodents, raccoons. (Yeah, sure?)

Free:
rotary dial phone (Riverdale)
Gifted
125d
- Made in Canada by Northern Telecom. Almost definitely from 1969 when my family moved to the 416 area code. Weighs a ton; they don't make them like that any more! Still has its RJ45 cable, for those who still have phone jacks. Channel your inner J.B. Fletcher :-) For those watching the TV series "Julia," I also noticed a lot of these phones in a recent scene of PBS telethon circa early 1960s.

128d
- This is a bit of an ugly duckling but with some sanding and a fresh coat of paint it could be a great side table, on a verandah maybe? 15 inches high, 18 inches wide, 10 inches deep. The wooden lid still shows traces of my sister's decoupage efforts back in 1950s - magazine clippings of Judy Garland et al plus a handful of sequins.
