Free: Wood jewelry box (Cleveland Park) Gifted 133d - Jewelry box. Circa mid-1990s. Unknown wood, possibly burl with yellow maple or golden cherry around edge? Classic design. Suitable for men or women. Outer dimensions 12” x 7” x 3”. Green velvet lining. (Slightly worn through in one small patch but not visible.) Removable upper tray with multiple compartments including ring storage. Single large lower compartment. Mirrored lid (useless in my opinion, but whatever.) Good condition. Does not lock. Brand is “Mele, made in Taiwan.” This seems to be a mid-market manufacturer, still in business, Canada-based but now manufacturing in China. In-person pickup near Zoo. Free: Black percale standard pillow shams (Cleveland Park) Gifted 276d - Set of two black, standard (not king or “European”) percale bed-pillow shams from CB2. “Organic cotton,” if that matters to you. Product page is at , and so is photo. I got these a few months ago for a dramatic, tailored look and they’re fine. But it turns out I prefer crisp white pillowcases and shams. That’s psychological, not aesthetic. From a nonsmoking home (with a cat, but these are clean and pressed). Free to a good home, maybe yours? Free: Black twill weekender bag (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - Nice-sized “weekender” bag in black twill with waterproof nylon (?) interior. Brand is Ricardo of Beverly Hills. Total size of compartment (excluding handles) is 16” long x 12” high x 8” deep. There are one full-length full-height outer zip pocket, and (on other side) two smaller (full-length but shallower) zip pockets—they’re especially handy for carrying tickets, phone, ID, other items you need to keep safe but accessible. Zipper for the large compartment is compatible with a small TSA lock (not included). There is a canvas loop for slipping over the handle of a rolling suitcase. There are carrying handles, and a detachable shoulder strap. Clean and in good condition. All zippers work fine. This appears similar but not identical to the newer version at . (Mine is black, not navy, and has no detachable zip pouch.) Flexible in-person pickup at apartment building on Connecticut Ave., near Zoo and Metro. No porch pickup. Color is “waxed beige,” very neutral. Another name for “vegan leather” is, of course, “plastic.” Still, this is a well-designed and flexible mini-crossbody or clutch. Certainly ample for phone, keys, credit cards, spare mask, and a few cosmetics. I never actually carried it so it's brand-new though not in original packaging. Free: White ceramic planter & saucer (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - Ceramic planter pot, with drainage hole. Full product description at Amazon: . This is the medium size (5.7” high, 5.2” diameter). Color is matte white. Clean. (What may look like inner discoloration is just inherent to the pot. See photos at Amazon page.) Includes pot, saucer, wire mesh to cover drainage hole, and felt pad to protect furniture. This is well-made and good-looking. My sedum (rooted from an outdoor cutting) succumbed to transplant shock and I don’t need its pot anymore. OPTIONAL: Approximately a quart of succulent potting mix, exactly the right amount for this pot. I re-sterilized it in the oven at 180 degrees (a trick for re-using potting soil) so it is guaranteed pest- and disease-free. Free: 9.25" Copco enamel skillet & lid (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - This is a nice 9.25" Copco enamel skillet with lid that I haven't used for at least a decade. White, with silver metal accent stripes. Stovetop and oven-safe. Not microwave-safe. Full disclosure: condition is excellent, no stains or discoloration, a few light scratches. However, the bottom of the skillet is very slightly raised in center, so that if you saute with very little fat or liquid, they tend to flow to the edges, and pieces in the middle brown faster. Not an issue except in very low-fat cooking. Great for sauces, stews, braises. Free: Plastic storage caddy (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - Plastic storage caddy with handle and two compartments. Unknown manufacturer, probably Rubbermaid or Sterilite or similar. (This is not a Casabella storage caddy designed to fit inside the big bucket that I’m also offering today!) Dimensions are 14.5” long x 10.25” wide x 4” high (to top of compartment), 6” (to top of handle). Each “compartment” is about 4.5” wide, with a spine in the middle. Clean, no scratches or damage. I’ve put it in the dishwasher (top shelf). I don’t need it anymore. Could be handy for, e.g., storage, toting cleaning supplies, carrying silverware at a picnic. Free: Black "gator" very-mini crossbody (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - Friends, there was so much interest in my post yesterday for a different bag (sorry for the inevitable disappointment) that I’ll also offer this: It’s shiny black alligator-embossed leather (real or fake? I don’t know). Closed, the bag compartment is 5.25” x 5.25” square, with a magnetic-snap closure and a snug outer pocket that’ll keep your phone close and very secure. (I stuck a couple of business cards in that slot for photo.) Opened, the bag is 14” long, with five credit- or Smartrip-card slots, one snap compartment, one Velcro compartment under the snap compartment, and a long (full-length) zippered compartment for holding, I suppose, currency or passport or anything that you want to keep very safe. Adjustable and detachable shoulder strap, and loop for carrying as clutch. Great small bag, but yeah, definitely small. Pickup from apartment building near Zoo. Free: Huge Ikea Frakta bag, clean & whole (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - Iconic blue Ikea Frakta bag. Per website: “Length: 21 ¾ " Depth: 14 ½ " Height: 13 ¾ " Max. load: 55 lb Volume: 19 gallon (/). This thing is big and strong, really big, but folds flat. To clean, wipe it with a damp sponge and air out. I used it in lieu of a laundry basket when I previously had to schlep to a basement laundry room, and it easily held three big loads of sheets, towels, and clothing. Now I have in-unit laundry, and I never go to the beach, so I have no real use for this. Pickup from apartment building near Zoo. Free: Adorable stuffed baby elephant (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - Darling stuffed elephant. Appears to be this one: . (Asian, not African!) The back-story is that I noticed this forlorn creature sitting on the sidewalk in my neighborhood, Cleveland Park. I took a photo and posted it to the 12,000+ member Cleveland Park listserv with description and exact address, hoping to reunite this creature with its young owner. Well, it was still there 10 days later, looking sad. I took it home, ran it through the washing machine on delicate, dried it in a sunny window, and fluffed it up in the dryer. Babar (or Babette) is ready for a loving new home. Flexible, in-person pickup most days except Tuesday, August 16. Cool and crisp. Also its mate, which has tiny holes (visible in one photo) apparently from being laundered in a top-loading washing machine. Note especially that it’s machine washable and dryable at temperatures that kill dust mites. In near-new condition, with no spots or stains. Photograph shows it on a full bed, where it looks more like a bedspread; on a queen bed it’d look more like a comforter. Color is closer to cream than to white. Despite this being Ikea’s coolest comforter, and the review at , I found this too warm (I’m a hot sleeper), and I don’t have space or inclination to store it for cooler seasons. Free: Large framed art - mountain lions (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - Framed (drawing? lithograph? print? I dunno) of two mountain lions. Total size is 22” x 28”; image size is 16” x 19”. Frame and glass are in fine shape, and it’d be simple to change the mat color if you prefer. I feel a bit wistful about giving this away, because it was the first piece of "grown-up" art I bought; but I haven't had space to display it in years. It's dark-stained with a polyurethane (?) or similar protective coat, so it's practical indoors or outside. Outer dimensions are 17.25" x 13.75". To calculate the usable carrying area, just subtract a quarter-inch all around. It holds a lot and is easy to wipe clean. Happy to pass on to a new home. These are the last of my boxes to be unpacked after a late-April move. One large, one medium, two small. ("Small" means good for packing books or dishes, 16 x 16 x 10, not really so small.) Clean, used once. Easy in-person pickup today (Wednesday) or Friday from the Kennedy-Warren, 3133 Connecticut Ave. NO THURSDAY PICKUP. If not gone by weekend, I'll place in recycling. Free: Bulk popcorn, caramel & cheddar (Cleveland Park) Gifted 1y - This is the “Chicago Blend” flavor from Pittsburgh Popcorn Company, cheddar and caramel mix, see /. I bought a bulk bag for a holiday-weekend event but overestimated. Original amount was 90 cups, and I’d guess we used one-third. Shipped last Thursday and arrived Friday, so it’s still pretty fresh. Double-bagged in heavy plastic. We scooped using a clean utensil and didn’t put grubby hands inside. IMPORTANT: Pickup IN PERSON from apartment building (near the Zoo and between Woodley Park and Cleveland Park Metros). No porch pickup. Easy short-term parking in front.
