Double bed frame, without mattress. Standard double bed size 4’ 6” x 6’ 6”. Very strongly constructed, with solid timber frame in one piece, built mid-1930s, originally with a boxed spring over the timber frame, but now devoid of upholstery (since 1995) and upgraded using modern brackets, as shown in photo. Frame base needs large van for collection, since will not fold. All in good condition, but the timber frame is sawn timber, not planed smooth, so could yield splinters so needs to be covered with a cloth or similar, such as a valance. Headboard and footboard are constructed of Sapele mahogany veneer over solid mahogany and recently re-finished with a high quality polyurethane varnish in a satin finish. Headboard and footboard connect to frame via painted steel irons resting on steel brackets. All fixings complete and functioning perfectly. One photo shows bed frame erected, and second photo with mattress on top to illustrate final appearance. This is a good quality item that will last for many years. Built by owner’s father around 1937. The item was offered to a furniture charity but refused on health and safety grounds owing to the possibility of sawn timber frame yielding splinters, but has been in constant use for 30 years, covered with a valance, without incident. Collect in large van from Swanage. Ideal collection dates would be tomorrow 27th November, or by arrangement from end of December onwards.
