There is a long cable with a switch at the end so you can switch the light on and off remotely, for example from your bed.
This unit is possibly from the 60’s or early 70’s and was principally if you did not have a bedside light.
Although the item works please only ask for the switch if you want it as a curio not to actually use day to day.
