piece of American history

I have an old school reader book from 1946. These are the early Dick, Jane, and Sally readers.

And, the bonus is that this is the Teachers Edition!!!!!! Wow! what boomer does not remember how special the Teachers Edition was! That was the one the teacher used and had all of the answers and who know what other neat stuff. It would sit there on top of her wooden desk and most teachers were pretty tidy and there it was with its own dedicated space in her universe!
We used to have a lot of regard for our teachers when we were kids.

So, here it is, complete with lesson plans and ideas and concepts of comprehension to teach to all of us little boomers.

And it also has a full copy of the very one that the students have.

It is a great teaching tool if you happen to home school or if you really manage to have some quality reading time with your kids. Of course, we had these readers when we were probably about 6. This is serious and literal "old school".

It is hardback and has an engraved image of who appear to be Dick and his sister, Jane. They have "galoshes" on and raincoats and hats and an umbrella and Spot the dog is leading the way through the puddles and streaks of rain are coming down.

I have enjoyed picking it up and looking at it over some time. But I have gotten all that I can from it and now maybe someone else can enjoy seeing and using it to read with kids, I hope. Time to let it go for some one else.

This really reflects the time. This is almost 80 years ago.

This one was purchased and belonged to a boys school when it was new. They probably put in a book sale when the newer one came out and it traveled around before it stopped at my house for a while. I dont remember how it came to my door.

It is in fair condition, a bit worn in the binding.
