From a house with cats, but low on odor AFAICT. Made from a synthetic fiber, type unknown*. Has many matted surface pills that can be easily removed with a hair trimmer, I got good results on a 1' square in only a couple of minutes (see picture). I think once that's done, it will have a new lease on life once washed.
It's much too heavy dry, let alone wet to wash in a machine. I get great results washing rugs on my sloping concrete driveway on hot days, using a pole brush, dish detergent and the garden hose attachment show in the last picture (it emulates a power-washer wand pretty well). If you don't have access to such a sloped driveway or wand, you're welcome to use mine, just pick up the rug on a day that's hot and sunny here in El Sobrante. Also plan on transporting a very heavy wet rug home. If a roof rack or pickup truck's not an option, I suggest rolling it up in clear poly film. Or wear a bathing suit, LOL.
*IDK what fiber, the label is missing. I just got this yesterday from a well-intentioned fellow trashnothing member who believed it was natural fiber and it does in fact look a lot like one. However, when plucked, loose fibers were super fine, clear and glassy, and when exposed to flame, they melted quickly into a black blob, which cooled to a hard lump. My guess is either olefin, or some sort of polyethylene or polyamide, for you fiber chemistry fans.
