Flame effect Electric fire (St Bees CA28)

Has anyone got a flame effect electric fire they no longer use? I have an open fireplace, but when it's windy it blows back and the room is filled with smoke. I have a new air source heat thingmy, and I know its ridiculous, but if I can't see my fire it doesn't matter what that thermostat says - I'm cold. I'd be grateful if someone can help.
