Brushed metal. Takes a G9 bulb (1 included). Please note, the head can get very hot, to be used with the metal rod which is attached to the head. The lamp belongs to my very elderly parents in law, due to the head getting hot, it's not save for children, the elderly or incapacitated people. ( Needs a bit of a clean, has been sitting in a cupboard for a couple of years.
