Free: Jerusalem artichoke plants (Arcadia nr Baldwin-Stocker Sch) Expired - Jerusalem artichoke (aka sunchoke aka helianthus tuberosus) plants. They grow 8 feet tall, yielding small sunflowers in the summer plus about 5 pounds of underground tubers for each plant in the fall. Store, clean and use the tubers like you would new potatoes. Tubers have a potato texture with faint artichoke flavor. Once established, they will always emerge to grow a new crop the following year - no matter how many tubers you harvest, you will always miss a few, and each tuber (or even fragment of a tuber) will sprout into new plants. But they do not become a nuisance, because the plants are easily removed, and they only spread from the tubers. Prep now for empty store shelves resulting from food supply chain interruptions, natural disasters or Zombie Apocalypse.

Free: Jerusalem artichoke-sunchoke tubers (Arcadia nr Baldwin-Stocker Sch) Expired - Jerusalem artichoke aka sunchoke tubers fo planting. Prepare for the zombie apocalypse or supply chain interruptions when food may become scarce. These a nutritious substitute for potatoes in any recipe. Eat them raw, sliced thin as a salad garnish. My favorite is to boil until fork-tender, then drain, drizzle with butter while the sunchokes are still warm, and sprinkle fresh rosemary on the batch. Yum. Potato texture enhanced with a faint artichoke flavor. Easy to plant and grow, unfussy, drought-tolerant. Pick a sunny spot preferably near a wall or fence because these guys grow up to 10' tall and produce small sunflowers in the summer. When stalks die back in Autumn, cut them off about 6" above soil level so that you can find them again to harvest the tubers which grow underground. With good soil and adequate watering, each plant can yield about 5 pounds of tubers. Once you plant these, they will return every year. You can harvest beginning in about November, through the end of February. After that, the tubers begin to sprout And no matter how thoroughly you dig and sift, you will never find all of the tubers, thus guaranteeing a new crop with zero effort. The plants are easily removed if they become too numerous, so no pest or noxious weed danger. Free: Mostly dead solar landscape lights (Arcadia nr Baldwin-Stocker Sch) Expired - I replaced more than a dozen old solar landscape lights-- some of the leftovers still work, others are broken. Maybe someone can find a use for the parts. My guess is that the batteries wore out. Solar cells and LED lights should still be ok. I was planning to scavenge the solar cells and build a small array for recharging phones. But too many projects too little time.

Free: Landscape solar lights for parts (Arcadia nr Baldwin-Stocker Sch) Expired - Replaced several solar landscaping spotlights. Some still work, others appear to be dead. Maybe you can use the solar cells or batteries or LED lights. Assuming that the solar cells are good, connecting them in series can produce enough energy to be useful - 5 volts to charge a phone, 12v to charge a car battery. At least that was my plan for a fun experiment, but too many projects and too little time.

Free: Wooden pallet - large and heavy (Arcadia nr Baldwin-Stocker Sch) Gifted - Large = 30" x 60" (rounding up about 1" each dimension because I dislike odd numbers) Heavy = 60 pounds (rounding down a couple of pounds but you get the idea) now curbside ready for pickup Plan ahead - this sucker is larger than the average wooden pallet and MUCH heavier - it barely fit into my hatchback and required most of my strength to muscle it into place. Measure twice cut once

Free: Jerusalem artichokes / sunchokes (Arcadia nr Baldwin-Stocker Sch) Expired - Jerusalem artichoke / sunchoke tubers - suitable for either eating (wash thoroughly then boil and use like a potato) or planting. They love sun and are not fussy about water. But more water equals a larger harvest of tubers in the Fall. I harvested 20 pounds of tubers from a 3' diameter area. Good survival food in case of supply chain issues. Once established, they give annual crop in the Fall, and can be left in the ground until almost April, digging tubers as needed. They sprout easily from the smallest tuber or fragment, and some tubers will always be missed during harvest, guaranteeing new plants with zero effort. Any unwanted emerging plants are easily removed, never becoming a nuisance. For more info see this article. My favorite (and insanely easy) sunchoke recipe is diced and boiled in the skin, with butter and fresh rosemary. They taste like new potatoes with a hint of artichoke. Reply to coordinate pickup in Arcadia.
