Free: Easel, canvases, light tracing box (Queensway Terrace North) Expired - This is another collection of my surplus art-related things... 1) 2 canvasses, one unused 8"x10" with a screwed-on birch frame, and one 36"x12" that I started painting on, then completely lost interest in--which could be repainted white and reused for something new. 2) A home-made easel from many years ago, which I used to display larger paintings on (not being adjustable, it's not really suitable as a painting easel) but no longer need. 3) A misc. stack of heavy cardboards from pads of art papers, notebooks, and the like, which I used to like for quick studies in oils, experiments with painting, and so on (being absorbent, things dried quickly) and a few sheets of loose heavy paper I no longer plan to use. 4) An older Lightracer2 light tracing box, that again, I no longer plan to use. As the lit photo shows, it still works, though it usually takes 2-3 tries to get what I believe is a small fluorescent tube inside it to fire up (modern versions of this use LEDs, but this isn't a modern model). I'm hoping there'll still be lots of life in whatever lights it, as I never ended up using it much, and that someone else can make use of it. Switched off, it can be seen sitting under the easel. This is part of a group of items I'm posting MONDAY AFTERNOON (Sept 11, 2023). I won't be look to see who's interested until WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON (Sept 13, 2023). Then I'll do my usual: either decide who to offer to, or if there's a lot of interest on an item, I go to a names-in-a-hat exercise.

Free: 'G' stamps as craft supplies (Queensway Terrace North) Expired - Years ago, I inherited these stamps from my mother...they're "G" stamps which back in the 1960s would have been issued to government offices for use on government mail ONLY. They were basically done away with by the 1970s, and all offices told to destroy them. What I was told about 2010 by an exasperated appraiser, was that all sorts of people ended up keeping them instead, with the idea that oh, someday they'd be valuable or collectible, but this has never turned out true. Be clear about it! These can't be used as stamps today, and in collectible terms they are VALUELESS. But: they're also striking, the effect of a mass of them is fun, and I've used them in the past (example) to cover decoupaged trinket boxes. Would anyone like them as a craft supply? This is one of two or three items I'm posting MONDAY AFTERNOON (Sept 11, 2023). I won't be look to see who's interested until WEDNESDAY AFTERNOON (Sept 13, 2023). Then I'll do my usual: either decide who to offer to, or if there's a lot of interest on an item, I go to a names-in-a-hat exercise.

"Adventure Time" the complete first season "The Big Bang Theory" the complete first season and "Snowpiercer" This is part of a group of items I'm posting SATURDAY MAY 27th, 2023). I won't be looking to see who's interested until MONDAY MAY 29th, 2023). Free: 1800s Velvet Mourning Cloak? (Queensway Terrace North) Expired - Here, I need to turn loose an authentic white elephant item: unique these days, beautiful, and overall, hard to see what the heck to do with it. It'll be coming in the box it's shown in. I bought this from an antique store in Kingston, back around 1978, for the princely sum of $80, really not knowing anything about it, except that it was all of fragile--the velvet worn in places and extremely delicate, especially on the separate collar, and the front edges of the cloak--that its then black silk lining was almost completely fallen to shreds,, and that it was decorated with the most gorgeous mix of embroidery and beading, that I'd ever seen. From the silhouette of the thing, it was clearly made to lie over a wide skirt. I would guess sometime in the 1880s, but honestly no idea, it could be earlier. It took me years to realize that all that lush black-on-black material and trimmings *probably* says this was part of someone's mourning wardrobe--a decade or two after I had carefully trimmed out the shreds of original black lining and replaced them with the heavy silver satin that lines it now. Should have been black! but at least it's helped keep the whole thing stable...given me the time to study, enjoy it, and figure out that no, I don't actually want to make a modern version myself. My ambitions as a seamstress are rather less, these days! So: time to turn it loose. I don't know whether I should be looking for another crazed historical costume hobbyist like my younger self, or suggestions as to people working with period costume, eg., in theatre, who might find it worth a look. EDIT: When I posted this Saturday evening (April 29th) I forgot to add my usual info block -------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- This is part of a group of items I'm posting SATURDAY AFTERNOON (April 29, 2023). I won't be look to see who's interested until MONDAY AFTERNOON (May 01, 2023). Then I'll do my usual: either decide who to offer to, or if there's a lot of interest on an item, I go to a names-in-a-hat exercise. I already suspect this will be one of those cases where I'll have to go to a names-in-hand draw, to decide where it goes. ---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------- UPDATE: MONDAY EVENING, MAY 1ST OK, well, this has been interesting, both because yes, there's been a LOT of interest in this piece, and because I've had several suggestions for local museums, and a couple of theatre companies that I now want to check out as possible places to donate it. I've been uncertain about that, previously, as I wasn't sure how unimpressed a museum might be with it, given (a) that I did all that work back in the 70s, to re-line it with what I now "get" was 100% inappropriate silver satin, (b) that its velvet pile is frighteningly delicate. Especially on the collar, if I flick a fingernail against the material, it comes back dusted with powdery black plush. So it's really not a good bet for *wearing* at this stage--more of a gorgeous artifact for study and inspiration--but if I could get it into a museum display somewhere, that probably would be the most suitable fate for it. So I'm going to see if I can place it with any of the ones suggested...but with no certainty yet that any of them will want it, I'm also not throwing out my list of people who've expressed an interest in it! I just can't swear there won't still end up being a point where I need to sit down and do the draw I was expecting to do for it, this evening. Because ultimately, the bottom line here is that this has to move on from me. A related thought I've had, is that what I should do next-up, as my final step as owner, is make a pattern of this thing, draw it correctly to include the details of construction one can't see here (eg., the front originally closed with hook-and-eyes, most long gone) get the best photos I can of that distinctive trim, and look to post *that* online as a resource for anyone who might want to try for a replica. Going to aim for that over the next week or two.

Free: Vintage trolls and troll house (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - Back around 1968, I fell in love with trolls, and between then and about 1970, acquired this collection of them, with a "troll house" case to store them in, and a candy-striped former candy box to hold their collection of both commercially and home-made clothing. They've sat in my toy trunk mostly untouched since 1980, and I think that it's time for them to go back into younger hands. This is part of a group of items I'm posting SATURDAY AFTERNOON (April 29, 2023). I won't be look to see who's interested until MONDAY AFTERNOON (May 01, 2023). Free: Red Granite Apple Paperweight (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - As a paperweight, this isn't the greatest--if you need something to hold a book open, it tends to go off balance and fall over--but if all you need is to keep a flat stack of papers from blowing away, it's a fun and pleasing thing. I've always made a point of keeping it in shade, because I'm pretty sure the red is dyed, not 100% natural, and would likely bleach out if set in strong sunlight. This is part of a group of items I'm posting SATURDAY AFTERNOON (April 29, 2023). I won't be look to see who's interested until MONDAY AFTERNOON (May 01, 2023). Free: Kitchen flask trio (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - There are three kitchen flasks here: I've been using the round one for vinegar, roughly a cup...the smaller, tinted blue, has pewter-looking olives on it, for olive oil, and the third is a genuine antique. Anyone remember Great Beginnings salad dressing mix? One of the first mix-your-own-salad dressing products I remember from the 1970s, early on they encouraged people to use it by providing these little shaker flasks for free. I've seen them priced a few times as high as $10 as flea market collectibles :D ! but I figure there's symmetry in moving this on as free, ~50 years later. This is part of a group of items I'm posting SUNDAY AFTERNOON (April 23, 2023). I won't look to see who's interested until TUESDAY MORNING (April 25, 2023). Then I'll do my usual: either decide who to offer to, or if there's a lot of interest on an item, I go to a names-in-a-hat exercise.

Free: Polished white quartz pebbles (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - This is a bag containing roughly 2 lbs of polished white quartz pebbles, suitable for using to weigh down the bottom of a vase--or any other craft purpose you may be imagine for them! Free: Display bowl with shells (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - I've used this display bowl for several years now, to show off about half my shell collection, but now that I'm downsizing that collection, this and most of its contents can go. It's about 9" in diameter at its mouth, and stands about 8" tall at the taller edge of its tilted back. The base has been filled with polished quartz pebbles, and the shells I'm looking to move on with it--while they're pretty, they *are* mostly from the Dollar Store. Anybody interested? Free: Pretty things in a Pink china box (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - The main item on offer here, is a pretty pink china jewelery box that I bought as a souvenir at Mont Ste. Marie, back in the late 1980s. Still in immaculate condition. I'm including with it a yellow ribbon rose pin, a pair of brown shell earrings, and a cheap green costume jewelery necklace from at least a decade ago. This is part of a group of items I'm posting SUNDAY AFTERNOON (April 23, 2023). I won't look to see who's interested until TUESDAY MORNING (April 25, 2023). Free: Cute Autumn Moose Character (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - This cute little hobo moose figurine holding a pumpkin stands 7 1/2 inches high, at a bit of a tilt which...is original. Lots of colour, texture, and detail, but at this point he's surplus to my collection. FULL DISCLOSURE: Many years ago, this little guy had his head knocked off. It was a clean break that I was able to fix immediately, no paint or chips got lost, and today, inspecting the figure close up with a good magnifying glass, it's basically only because I *know* it happened, that I can spot a couple of miniscule shiny spots in the fur inside his collar, that I can guess are from the glue I used. So he isn't in pristine mint condition--but it takes a magnifying glass to spot it. This is part of a group of items I'm posting SUNDAY AFTERNOON (April 23, 2023). I won't look to see who's interested until TUESDAY MORNING (April 25, 2023). Free: Green glass bowl + 6 dessert dishes (Queensway Terrace North) Expired - An ideal bowl to fill with summer berries and cream, or similar, then serve another six individual serving bowls from... Pretty, but as a single who entertains just about next to never, this hasn't seen use more than twice in the past five years. Time to downsize! These are part of a next 'wave' of things I'm posting Sunday night (March 5th) and will leave open until Tuesday night (7th) before looking to see who's interested. Then it'll be my usual routine--either I decide who to offer to, or if there's a lot of interest on an item, I go to a names-in-a-hat exercise.

Free: Two big boxes of books (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - I'm downsizing my library, and have two big boxes of books to give away. Mostly SF/F, except for the chunk of Carole Nelson Douglas "Irene Adler" mystery series seen in the middle of Box 1, the cull also includes: Box 1 shown Terry Pratchett's four Tiffany Aching books (Discworld) A hefty chunk of Anne Bishop's "Dark Jewels" series The Carole Nelson Douglas books Another hefty chunk of a series called "The Horus Heresy" series (various authors) Box 2 shown A large chunk of Steven Brust's "Vlad Taltos" series (almost all, I think) A more modest chunk of Jim Butcher's "Dresden" books A pile of Glen Cook's "Garrett PI" series ...and in each case, there's a misc. pile of other and older SF added, and in one box an ancient art history book that I actually don't figure anyone will want. I know I could just donate these, but figured I'd like to give anyone with an interest in the "chunks" a chance at them. To respect the "fair offer" policy, I won't be looking to see if anyone's interested, before sometime late Sunday.

Free: Surplus Lunchware (Queensway Terrace North) Expired - Now that I'm retired, and not packing lunches, snacks, and workout drinks any more, I have a fair bit more lunchware than I need. All in good shape, and looking at the food containers, except for the red-lidded one, they're all good for packing anything that isn't too soupy (like soup) in backpacks and similar. I'd like to give this all as one lot, and if there's anything you don't need, just toss it or pass it on. Doing the fair offer thing, I won't respond to any messages before Friday evening.

Free: Drafting Tools Kit (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - Does anyone still use drafting tools and triangular rulers like this? I inherited two of these kits from my father--one that I know he used, as an amateur draftsman doing architectural drawings, and this one which seems brand new and I don't ever recall seeing him use. If it would be useful to anyone now, I would like to gift it. It looks like very good quality tools, but is this sort of work still done by hand any more?

Free: Jiu-Jitsu Sparring Gear (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - Years ago, I used to do jiu-jitsu, and when I retired from it, wiped down my gear with Febreeze and packed it away in a metal bin from Ikea. - a foam helmet, never much used - a pair of medium footie shields, a bit worn but still sound - a pair of gloves, less worn but still sound - the foam nunchucks I got with the set, not the greatest and hardly ever used - a knee bandage and wrist bandage, never really used because too small for me. I would now like to give it all away, and it can go packed in the bin if you would like it.

Free: Retro Hanging Lamp (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - This cool old retro hanging lamp, meant to hang off the wall on a sweet swinging arm, is surplus to my needs after remodeling of the room it hung in. It's in good condition, and if I had any other place to hang it, I'd really prefer to keep it--but I don't. So the question is, would anybody else like it?

Free: Antique Fire Irons (Boot Scrapers?) (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - They're old, dull, kind of scruffy looking and a bit corroded though not what I would call surface-rusty. Would anybody like them?

Free: Two Surplus Billy Bookcases (Queensway Terrace North) Gifted - I have two tall Billy bookcases (Ikea) surplus to my needs. The newer is a pleasant but oddball burgundy colour, comes with matching glass doors, and only has the standard number of shelves these bookcases come with. The older is a standard 'birch' model, with an extra shelf that makes it good for paperback-sized books. The problem is, I have no way to transport or deliver these--whoever takes them, needs to be able to pick them up.
