Mirabilis Four O’clock flower (Morden SM4)
I have absolutely no idea what colour these will turn out to be but I think that they are red or dark pink. Who knows? A very pretty shrubby type plant. You must not plant this out until May until the frost is completely gone. So keep it indoors until then. It is so called a 4 o’clock flower because it flowers when it is lower temperatures later in the afternoon or even on a shady day although it does require full sun to grow. Location: Thrives in full sun, though it can tolerate partial shade. Soil/Water: Needs well-drained soil; water regularly but avoid waterlogging to prevent root rot. They are somewhat drought-tolerant once established. Feeding: Feed monthly with a liquid fertiliser, such as tomato food, to promote blooms. Maintenance: Pinch back young stems to encourage a bushy habit. Deadheading keeps the plant tidy, though it is not strictly necessary. Overwintering (UK): As they are not fully hardy, lift the tuberous roots in autumn after foliage dies back, and store in dry compost in a cool, frost-free place. Alternatively, treat them as annuals and collect seeds for the following year. Only one per person.
