For the Love of Hockey book (Hollymead)
As pictured. Okay, this book is from back when I was a hockey fanatic. The Capitals were a blue collar grinding team who couldn't figure out the nasty Pittsburgh Penguins, especially in round one of the playoffs 😠 but I still rode Metro from Fairfax to downtown to support my team. Peter Bondra! But also guys like Glen Metropolit and Joe Sacco who the masses called a waste of roster space, but who I loved to watch play. (I'm still sad about the manner in which the world lost Stephen Peat...absolutely heartbreaking...one of my adopted "brothers" There were a ton of fascinating players in both conferences, back before you could make a two line pass and teams like the New Jersey Devils drove everyone crazy playing the trap and ending up with 1-0 box scores. (Man, I loved them)! That was back when in the midst of being obsessed with whoever was on the ice - anyone want to watch the Atlanta Thrashers play the Florida Panthers when they still sucked? Back when you made sure to go downtown just to watch the Caps do a stressless old fashioned buttkicking when those teams came to our own opposing bench. 😃 I nursed a monster crush on Chris Simon...and Darius Kasparaitis, not that I would admit that out loud of course. 😂 I've gone from a couple of innocent crushes in the middle of staying up til 2 am to watch the San Jose Sharks and Shane Doan in Phoenix play on Pacific time, to saying I want guys like Anze Kopitar to be my brother, then somehow I was old enough for the new generation to be my kids. Now people like Jarome Iginla and Keith Tkachuk have their kids in the game, and I can pretty much be granny. 🤣 The NHL lost me with the 2005 lockout. One of those fans who Bettman feared wouldn't come back after so long without games. Oops. 🤫 Anyway! We're not hanging on to most of our physical books. Anyone else want to reminisce? 😃 Hollymead pickup next to the schools.
