I really don't know what this was used for. It is a sturdy metal box with a hinged lid, 14x16 inches and 30 inches tall. The main compartment is very deep and has rails which might fit hanging file folders (I didn't try). There is also a bottom compartment which is open to the front.

My spring cleaning phase has reached the basement, and it's finally time to tidy up the loose bits of hardware that are just sitting unsorted in a couple of cardboard boxes.
