Office chair stuck on low setting (Enfield EN1)

Office chair where the gas cylinder is not working. This means the seat is on the lowest setting. If I rise the seat it just sinks back down again. Someone might be able to fix it or it might be ok for someone who doesn't mind sitting lower. My son also scribbled on the back of the chair. See photos. The seat itself is comfortable.
