Classics Illustrated from 1940s (Near Davis Square)

Classics Illustrated #6, published in 1942 by the Gilberton company, featuring a comic book version of "A Tale of Two Cities" by Charles Dickens, is available for pickup near Davis Square. It tells the story of Charles Darnay, an heir of the cruel aristocratic Evremonde family of France. Darnay denounces his family, moves to England, and marries Lucie Manette, daughter of Dr. Manette, who was held prisoner in the Bastille in Paris, France, for 18 years and freed. The peasants in France revolt against the aristocrats during the French Revolution. Circumstances require that Darnay return to France, where he is captured as a member of the Evremonde family and imprisoned in the Bastille, awaiting execution. The cover is loose, but the interior pages are in good condition, considering the age of the comic book.
