This bookshelf is unfinished pressboard, but not the slot-together kind. It is nailed together and the front edges of the uprights are nicely rounded. Some old water damage at the bottom, but that hasn't noticeably affected its functionality.
It probably should be painted for easier dusting--I use a little whisk broom but it's not exactly convenient.
