Branches for burning (Earlham NR5)

Can you make use of these larger shrub branches for starting a log fire or wood burner? They rang from 1 to 2 inches in diameter, trimmed from two shrubs, sorry I don't know the names of them but I've included pics of the leaves. I don't know how good they are for burning and they may need to be dried for a bit first.
