Mains powered. Connects via USB - leads included. Product title says 1TB storage, but it shows up on my Windows PC as 931GB. It is fully working and okay for backups, but being a good few years old you should not assume 100% reliability. That's why I replaced it (and to get more storage in a smaller box).
