Pine Cones for Crafts? (I25 & Alameda)

My big pine tree has droppef quite a few cones in the yard. When I was a kid, we used to paint them and/or flock them and spray them with sparkles etc. I thought I would offer them before picking them up and putting them in the green barrel.
