- I used this leash for a long time to walk GSDs on trails at Bayfront Park. Dogs loved the “freedom” to explore. Until the day ground squirrels were taunting the dog and she took off after one. I ended up with 1 broken and 2 sprained fingers. Since then I’ve ask trainers and every one strongly discourages retractable leashes especially for large dogs (they use non-retractable long lines).
