espresso machine - not working (North Berkeley hills)

DeLonghi expresso maker was working fine until we tried to clean it and afterwards, though it heats up when you turn it on, nothing happens when you try to actually start the brewing process. i.e. no motor sounds. Someone handy may be able to fix it easily or it may really be dead. I hate to just dump it.
