6 Bamboo Shrubs, Non-Invasive (Llangynllo LD7)

I have six of these beautiful bamboo plants to give away. They are roughly between a metre and 1.5 metres in height.

They look stunning if placed apart from each other (see the third photo showing one of the plants standing by itself). But if these 6 shrubs were to be placed fairly close together (as in the first photo) they will offer a mature and ready-made privacy-screen of about 2 metres in length.

The roots of this kind of bamboo are fibrous and non-invasive. In other words, the roots of these bamboo plants do not consist of horizontal runners which spread underground. See the middle photograph proving that the roots are fibrous.

I have placed each one in the plastic bags shown in the first photo with a few holes in the bottom of each bag for drainage. If you would like to have them I would recommend bringing 6 big bin-bags so as to pop each one inside a further (water-proof) bag for travelling.

This kind of clumping bamboo (with fibrous roots instead of runners) can be grown safely in the ground, but to be safe I would still place a barrier around them. The safest option is to place them in pots with some compost (bamboo likes a well-rotted compost with a reasonable amount of fibre in it). Some stones or chips scattered on top of the soil or compost keeps weeds away.

Fargesia Rufa is a hardy, evergreen, outdoor plant which thrives best in a shady and fairly sheltered position. It is child- and pet-safe.

Fargesia Rufa of this height, density, and maturity currently sell for as much as £59 each.
