Canon Pixma WiFi printer (RG2 Shinfield)

Canon pixma printer. It works, but prints funny. I have looked up error code and it says it is because we are not using branded ink cartridges.( not going to guarantee that’s the problem) I’m not sure if anyone is tech savvy that understands printers or can afford to keep buying branded ink.
