Letter box plate (brass?) (Brightwood Park/Petworth DC)

Google Lens indicates this thing is part of a through-the-door mail slot. Dunno why it’s in my house with the original screws (wrapped in painters tape). It looks like old brass that will shine up well. The china-marker lettering will wipe off.
