Antique Georgian mahogany square piano (ca 1800) free to a good home. The keyboard is decorated with a vignette by the makers 'John Longman X3 Cheapside London' and painted with trailing sweet peas over a satinwood board with fret cut details, the mahogany case with compound diaper and chevron inlay and satinwood stringing, set on square section tapering legs, 84 x 168 x 63cm. The piano is in good working order although needs tuning.
John Longman is documented as having flourished as a musical instrument maker in Cheapside. After his father James' death he took on various partnerships, but was sole proprietor between 1801 and 1816, so the current piano likely dates to this period.
