We have two conifer trees that had been used around the edge of our garden. As they were around the edge, against a fence, the back of the conifer is dead. So they could only really be used in a similar position (i.e. against a fence or wall with the nice side showing into the garden).
We have potted them temporarily, but can't give the pots (we still need those).
