Large house plants (or artificial) (Abingdon OX14)

Looking for some medium to large healthy house plants that are robust enough that even my son can look after them! Can be artificial if they look good. Trying to help him cheer up a very plain dark lounge. If anyone has any they no longer need /want to rehome, please let me know. It's my son's first home and he doesnt really know where to start to help it look homely. Thank you!
