Breadmaker (FAULTY?) (Slinfold RH13)

Morphy Richards breadmaker, unused for several years. Made a test loaf which was ok but the top didn't brown so I put it in the oven for 10mins to brown the top, perhaps I should have used higher setting? I guess it has a fault which may be fixable. Has an instruction booklet with recipes.
