Old, temperamental sewing machine (RG4)

I rarely use this as it is very heavy. It was serviced a few years ago and used maybe once since then. I remember the motor being slow and stopping, but the guy servicing it said it was because I wasnt using it enough, and to just put something heavy on the pedal for 15 minutes and it would be okay again. Can someone make use of this. Might need fixing
