⚠️ CURRENT CONDITION & WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW
When you turn it on, you will see a spinning globe icon, then after a few minutes it shows:
support.apple.com/mac/startup
‐2003F
👉 LET ME BE 100 % CLEAR — THIS IS NOT A BROKEN MACBOOK, NO PART HAS FAILED 👈
• I did a full factory reset and erased everything on the internal SSD — this also erased Apple’s small hidden recovery partition, so it has to try and load recovery over the internet
• ‐2003F is an official Apple code meaning ONLY: “cannot make a secure connection to our recovery servers” — it is purely network / certificate / routing, never hardware
• I have spent many hours trying every possible fix: every key combination, NVRAM/SMC reset, date/time correction, DNS changes, home broadband, multiple phone hotspots — it simply will not complete from my location/network, this is a known issue with the T2 chip and UK Apple CDN routing that can last days/weeks
• FIX IS EXTREMELY SIMPLE, FAST & ALMOST FREE:
1. Buy any 16 GB+ USB‐C flash drive ~£4–£6 (Currys / WHSmith / Tesco / CeX)
2. Walk into ANY APPLE STORE (Covent Garden, Regent St, White City, Stratford etc) — NO APPOINTMENT NEEDED, NO COST, even long out of warranty
3. Say: “Internet recovery stuck on ‐2003F, recovery partition erased, T2 chip model — please write a bootable installer to this USB‐C stick and allow external boot”
4. 10–15 MINUTES LATER IT IS FULLY WORKING AGAIN, they will also run a full official hardware test and tell you every component is perfect
5. Alternatively if you have another Mac at home you can make the installer yourself in 20 mins for nothing
• When working normally these are still solid, reliable machines easily worth £350–£500, brilliant for student, office, browsing, media, even light photo/video work — still officially supported by Apple
I’ve fought this as far as I reasonably can, I have an iMac so don’t need it, and I’d rather it goes to someone who can get it going easily rather than me binning it or spending more hours on it. It’s in ☐ excellent ☐ good ☐ fair cosmetic condition, screen is good, battery still holds decent charge.
