You get a proper VDSL2/ADSL2+ modem, 5x gigabit ports with real VLAN-capable switch, and wifi all under OpenWrt — not just a dumb AP.
The catch: flashing needs UART serial access (a "chopstick"/jumper-wire rig into test points on the board, no soldering required with the popular method), then TFTP-booting the install image over Ethernet. It's a well-trodden process with guides — not experimental — but it's more involved than a stock web-UI firmware upload.
