I've used this kind of jar for freezing cooked beans (just be sure to leave some space at the top!), storing bulk foods, and for fresh-ground peanut butter - reduce your plastic use! You may have other ideas...

I have been using it outside as a workstation with dual monitors and as an adjustable height tool station/workbench for my miter saw, router, and other heavy power tools.
