it needs a new battery but I find the back of the clock too fiddly and difficult to manage with my arthritic hands

a floor lamp (Eynsham OX29)
white, adjustable floor lamp - gives a very good light but the thread on the base has gone, so that you can't lift it. However this may be fixable and in any case it's an excellent light but you have to draw it across the floor if you want to move it.
