It is an outdoor plant which comes back every year. Large, arrow-shaped, glossy green leaves veined creamy-white appear in autumn, are decorative until April and are now disappearing. White spathes with a yellow spadix are followed by spikes of orange-red berries in Autumn. And then the leaves come back again.

Hesperantha coccinea, the river lily, or crimson flag lily, synonym Schizostylis coccinea, is a species of flowering plant in the iris family Iridaceae, native to Southern Africa and Zimbabwe. It is a semievergreen perennial growing to 60 cm tall, with slender lanceolate leaves up to 40 cm long and 1 cm broad. It flowers in late summer, so at the moment, there are none, just clumps of green leaves with striped roots.
