Meredew furniture chest of drawers. I picked this up as it’s the same range as my parents’ furniture which I’ve inherited- but it’s not quite the same colour so doesn’t look right together. Oak veneer faced, surfaces not perfect but could fettle up ok, solidly made and all drawers work. Summerdown / Old Town location

As new, non-stick with loose bottom. I don’t like it as it has slightly sloping sides (almost indistinguishable in the finished cake, see photo) but these mean you can’t easily line it with greaseproof paper as it doesn’t sit down all the way down the sides. It’s curtain lining material, not blackout material. I have shown the only stain on the fabric which is on a panel about 300mm square where it has been folded. There’s also a little bit near the centre fold as shown. These look like they will easily wash out, or they might not even be on the piece you would use. Probably a water mark as we used to get fabric cheap which was part water damaged. Summerdown / Old Town location

Fits over a single socket, you loosen the faceplate screws and slide it in, then retighten. Plug in the item wanted, turn on, then clip the cover over so that all you see is the wire coming out of the box. Great if you have someone like my Dad who when very old went around turning things off at night - the stairlift, the LifeLine phone, the air supply to the anti-bedsore mattress etc. Summerdown / Old Town location
