Request:
snowsuit size 18-24m and baby gate (Chatham, NY)
Please help out this lovely family new to our area. Omar needs a snowsuit! He is the newest member of a lovely immigrant family just moved back to Albany. He will be one year old on April 6th. Currently his dad is looking for work so they are being extra cautious with spending. I met this family through an artist project using sewing as a way to build community and help immigrants practice speaking English. They have moved into an apartment with an open stairway, so they could also use a baby gate. I believe the opening is about 31". The gate need not be openable, as long as it will prevent Omar from tumbling down the stairs. I can pick up your donated items and deliver to this family. Thank you for your generosity. I am happy to pick up anywhere between Chatham and the Albany area.

Request:
clean full/queen size mattress (Chatham, NY)
Received
Wanted: full or queen size mattress in very good, clean condition for my immigrant friend Safia. Her and her husband are expecting a baby in April. She is currently sleeping on the floor. (Ouch!) They live in Albany on Madison, near Swan street. I would be able to pick up and move the mattress for them but if you live in Albany, even better.

Request:
old items made with ripstop nylon (Chatham, NY)
Received
I am looking for: old tents (with holes?) raincoats, or anything made of ripstop nylon. You can tell determine the fabric is ripstop by the grid pattern woven into the fabric. We will use the material to make kites with an immigrant community in the Albany area and we will make you a kite too! Kites will be embellished with words of hope in the various languages of our community: Dari, Bangla, Turkish, Spanish, Hindi, and more! We will have a celebration flying kites day in September in Washington Park. Let me know if you would like more info about this. We are hoping to source this material as sustainably as possible. I can pick this up. Thanks! - Melissa

Request:
Pink girls bike helmet (Chatham, NY)
Expired
Ghlsoom is an immigrant girl from Afghanistan who arrived with her family (of 7,) in 2021. She is now riding her brother's old bike but doesn't have a helmet. Her preference is a pink helmet. This picture was taken last year at the Washington Park farmers market in Albany. She just turned 12. I can pick up and deliver the helmet, as I visit her family weekly. They live off of Delaware Ave in Albany.

Request:
Soccer cleats for immigrant teen (Chatham, NY)
Expired
Sabir arrived in the U.S. in the fall of 2021 with his family of eight. He is the only boy. He is about to enter high school and loves to play soccer. He received the second highest grade in his math class. He also told me that "calculus is easy." He is hoping to try out for the Albany High School soccer team. He has outgrown his cleats. These are 7.5's. If anyone has a pair that are 8's or 8.5's that they no longer need, I will get the cleats to him in Albany. I can pick them up from you. Thanks!

Request:
serger sewing machine for immigrant (Chatham, NY)
Received
Safia Mayar is an immigrant woman from Afghanistan. I have had the pleasure of getting to know her through a "sewing as a common language" project called Stitching Exchange. She is a very skilled and talented seamstress, able to create clothing, bedding, etc., without a pattern! We were able to give her a sewing machine which was donated by a kind supporter. She really wants a serger sewing machine! If you have one that is in good working order that you can give, Safia will be very happy and thankful! I will deliver it to her in Albany, where she lives. For more information about Stitching Exchange please take a look at my website or just ask! - Melissa Sarris
