Request: Update#2 re Everything Lost to Fire (Overbrook) Expired - Hello to everyone! I'm happy to extend a HEEYOOGE Thank You on behalf of Christine, to So Many wonderful people who went above n beyond helpful, in donating 5 carloads of all manner of stuff to supply necessities to start building a new life. There's signs of a phoenix preparing to rise from this disaster, and all of you who I either met, or who left items on your porches for me to collect, were instrumental in making this recovery possible. To say Thank You seems like the words are too weak to express my gratitude to you all for helping my friend. The support was so great that some items were received in duplicate, and my project for this week will no doubt be to collect those duplicates and deliver them to the Rideau Community Centre to be offered up to the other victims, so I thank you all on behalf of them, too. I was tempted to put my posting on 'pause' briefly, as we've covered most necessities, but by the same token, there are a few things that would still greatly improve her situation, so I'm hoping to find them amongst the group. Here are a few ideas for things I see that would make the best use of her new little space. - bookcase headboard for double bed - tall bookcases - bath mats/tub safety grips - laptop or desktop computer - bookshelf stereo or ghetto blaster Any help that comes is welcome, and will go a long way towards her recovery. Thank You All. >>> Original post below <<< OK, I'm not sure how to go about this msg, honestly I'm still processing the whole situation. I hadn't heard from a friend of mine for a few weeks, and just as I thought I'd look her up, she contacted me to let me know she'd been in hospital since Feb 21st, when someone in her apt building, who was known to have mental problems, had a flare-up and burned the whole thing down. So, my friend is starting over, for the second time in a year, after escaping a physically abusive relationship that cost her her health, and much of what she held dear, and this time she's doing so from absolute zero. I can't understand how much bad luck one person is meant to endure, but she's definitely up there. So, this is an appeal to all the freecyclers out there, I'm looking to equip her newly-found bachelor apt which she'll be in as of this week once released from hospital. I'll come to you to collect anything, I hope to gather a carload or two, to make her life a little better. I'm sure this list will evolve as I go, but here's where I'll start: Honestly, this is guesswork based on my own kitchen, suggestions are welcome. - (covered, thanx) pots/pans - (covered, thanx) cutlery/cutting board - (covered, thanx) knives n kitchen tools of all nature - (covered, thanx) toaster - (covered, thanx) microwave - (covered, thanx) shower curtain and rod - (covered, thanx) towels and toiletries - (covered, thanx) plates n bowls - (covered, thanx) toaster oven - (covered, thanx) coffeemaker, cups/mugs/glassware - (covered, thanx) crock pot - (covered, thanx) electric can opener - (covered, thanx) small kitchen table and a chair or two - (covered, thanx) TV and stand She's about 5'3" and just a little over 100 lbs, I don't know what that is in womens' size scales, but warm clothing is essential at this time of year, anything that's available there will help, too. She's got a double bed coming, so any bedding/blankets would be welcome, as would a dresser and night table, and a comfy chair would certainly be useful. I'm working on dimensions once I see the place. She'll need curtains and rods etc, I'll add that to the list once I know sizes. I know this is a lot to unpack, I'm struggling to comprehend how she must feel right now myself. Hopefully this is a good time to rely on the great people here, to gather up some things they were planning to re-home, and send them this way. Thanx to all.
