Letters from applicants & recipients of PCs / Laptops

Me and my partner moved to Portsmouth to be together. We found a dead body on new years day, our anniversary, in one of the back rooms. The guy that ran Tyne property lost his licence to rent out a multi occupied property so me and my partner ended up on the streets as the council says they are not going to help. We came back to London, were I am from, and ended up on the streets, sleeping rough in Victoria and charring cross. We were sleeping rough for 2 years but are now in supported housing in Paddington and starting to get our lives together. A com of any kind would help us no end. It really would.

Crossing a river with 3 kids, also one of them was only 9 mounts old, was a madly decision. We were in a dilemma, perhaps we would be drowned or both of the parents would arrested. Actually if one of the kids wasn’t 9 months and the other 4 years, we wouldn’t have thought to escape. Leaving from your own country which you were in a good situation ( my wife and I were pharmacists, and we had good income, our children went private schools, we had many friends, people respected us…) was very difficult. Passing a new country and starting a new life will be painful, we knew that.
Our colleagues waited for our arrestments nearly 3 years. They knew and wanted to arrested of us. Also the Turkish NHS banned our pharmacies. By this reasons we couldn’t sell our pharmacies to another pharmacist. Our pharmacies’ prices were nearly £140.000. (It is very big amount for turkey 1.000.000 Turkish Liras) We could take 4 clothes each one and some money for running away. Our whole stuffs were these. After we passed to Greece and found a home, my father brought me my passport, laptop and some clothes in a small suitcase.
If I talk about our crimes in Turkey, them were really ridiculous. In Turkey there was a big charity named “Kimse Yok Mu?” (We can translate it “Is there no one?”). We were volunteers for this charity. Especially in the education and in the health areas we tried to help people a lot. But after 15-July-2016 Military Coup Attempt, government accused this civil charity organisation to joining Military forces. Teachers, doctors, students, even if housewives became a guilty suddenly. Government started to make inhumanity to these people although they supported this charity before. The most painful was the arrests of mothers which just given birth with their babies. There was such a great pressure on the society; father complaint his kids, sisters complaint her siblings, neighbours who share same meal complaint their neighbours. I can write pages and pages about this cruel. Unfortunately as I told before 8 pharmacists gave letters about us, in the letters they wrote that my wife and I were volunteers in the Kimse Yok Mu? Charity.
Now, I start a new life. I want to reach same level of life standard in this beautiful country. I have missed chatting unfrightened with neighbours and friends. And I know that I can do this ease in this country. Like this news you send; life is suspending during the process, but I believe that it is a fallow for me. I try to adapt the life, I want to thanks you once again for your help in my efforts, and for encouraging me…

If I was lucky enough to find one I feel it may help my life and how I feel .it will also keep my mind off thinking about my loss of my mother from terminal cancer a few years ago then not long ago my little brother who was my best friend was killed by death by dangerous driving on his way to pick me up.so its important I try to get a laptop or pc to have something else to think about and leaving the house and being around others can be very difficult. Please could you let me know either way on my many thanks Jason (Greenford)

Hi my names jodi im a single mum to a little girl I’ve just finished my access to nursing and I’m planning to start university and study paediatric nursing id be extremely grateful if you’d donate this to me because I’ve found it really hard with saving up any money to get one and this will help and support me so much thanks a lot jodi

Hello there
I just wanted to say a very big thank you again for the phone - im just in the process of setting it up for my mum and she feels confident in learning how to use it - this has made things much less stressful for us all as her health is not the best and we support her with all of this as best we can.

Hello. I know yes that would absolutely wonderful. We are still requiring devises for some of our families struggling to get home learning done because they only have a phone screen to do so, which is too small. There is also usually 2-3 children trying to do learning in the home. We are a school in an impoverished area of Sunbury on Thames. We would be very grateful. As schools is closed this week, we can organise for collection next week? Bless you.

Brentford Homeless Centre
I have one chap who is due an operation in the next few weeks & will be immobile for at least three months so I'm going to try to set it up in his room (council have confirmed they'll keep him for at least 6 months) - I'm hoping to get him to use it to access some short courses & maybe work on his spelling & numeracy (his english is great but the spelling is......)
Hopefully this will help him manage himself better afterwards so it should get a proper workout soon :-) ( laptop + 2 PCs for drop-in centre)

Thanks Nicholas

Hi Nicholas
I am typing this email with the computer you gave me.
I am short of words. Thank you so much for your help. May God bless you and the work you do.
I didn't have any problem with it at all. I just plugged in my keyboard, mouse and then connected it to wifi and that was it.
It will help hasten the completion of my dissertation. I was actually at my uni library at Hertfordshire this morning to do some work at the library and I was told that it will not be opening till September. I don't know what I would have done without this computer.
Thanks again. Much appreciated.
Kind regardsStephanie

We were able to connect the PC today, I would say 10 minutes earlier. I'm sending you some pics. They're not that clear but my daughter is super excited to do her lessons. We tried to log in her Google classroom, and we were successful.
Sorry for the long delay in letting you know. We got the power cable today evening, that's why bit delay.
But I thank God for His favour and for helping us through you. May God bless you and your family abundantly.

P needs internet access to keep in touch with the people he knows. He had severe mental health issues which have been made worse by the severe isolation during coronavirus as the homeless and mental health day centre where he went every day had been closed since mid March and is going to remain closed until Sept.
>>
>> P has recently found out he is autistic and needs internet access to learn about autism, such as to watch YouTube videos by autistic people.

I know I'm messaging rather late but I just wanted to say thank you for the computer that you donated to my brother in law (and family). I visited them last weekend and it was proudly set up in their living room! The kids were really happy to have it, so thank you so very much. Kind regards, Lina.

10 8 20Hi Nicholas
Just wanted to say thank you so much for the pc. Without it I couldn’t work from home and would have to risk going in public transport to work as someone that was shielding that wasn’t a option. my son couldn’t do he’s online homework while schools are closed. I work for a charity so I get minimum wage and couldn’t afford to buy a computer. I had a old iPad that my son was trying to use but it broke and we couldn’t use it anymore and they wanted £400 to repair it. With out your help of a computer I do not know what we would have done thank you so much you have help more than you know
Lee

Hi I would like to tell you that my son and I are extremely grateful for the computer. It’s working perfectly. He’s been refreshing his studies for school and learning more by googling various science subjects that he love.
I now have time to sit at home and update my CV and work on projects with Adobe Photoshop that I had to put on hold as we had no computer.
This has been a great blessing.
Thank you very much!

On Tuesday, the day after delivering the 3 PCs to the Sudanese, I received this message from Stephen, the Christian member of the group:

“Hi Richard, I really appreciate you for your supporting us, may God bless you. See you next time, stay blessed, Bye”

In practical terms, the group will now be able to use the online English-learning materials provided by Camden ESOL at their individually appropriate level and will be able to follow individual online tuition with Yumiko who works as a language teacher and outreach worker for Camden Council. Having a PC gives them the opportunity to be in contact with the wider world while being more or less locked down as much by the covid restrictions as by their unenviable status as asylum seekers, unable to work, benefit from college education or socialise in a normal way for lack of funds.

Thank you very much indeed to you and your sponsors for making this possible for the group.

Hi we're a family on Benefits. & Survivors of domestic abuse. My three sons would really benefit from this PC. Our laptop was stolen recently.
Its truly a godsend for a single mother of 3 boys .....after being burgled. I'm on government benefits & wasn't covered by insurance. So HUGE thanks from us ☺️
If there are any more available we'd give it a lovi g home.....there's a bit of fight to do their online homework.

I’m curious - Why a wireless keyboard needed?
Some of the keys on my laptop keyboard barely work or stopped working completely, I’m on a unpaid coding internship and my job is reliant on it.

I work from home on a laptop, and found it very uncomfortable. I’ve found a docking station and monitor, but work wouldn’t give me a keyboard. Many thanks.

Hello this is Katherine. Thank you very much for the laptop. I'm in year 10 so I'm doing GCSE and the laptop will help me to study because it has as my the maths and science textbooks and Hegarty Maths on it
Hello I am Keira and I am in Year 5. I will use the laptop for maths games spellings and fractions it will be very useful

It will help us dramatically as i lost my job due to covid and also my childcare provision so cannot work as I cannot afford childcare in my local area and my so I need a pc to try and obtain a work from home position in a company willing to take me on and train me. This will also be of great benefit to my 10 yr old son. He has autism, and loves trains and makes videos about them for his YouTube page and often complains about not having the right means to edit his work.(PC)

Hi Nicholas, the new PC is brilliant! I have been able to use MS Office and the internet to help with my homework and revision. I have also been able to run some music software on it which I could previously only use at school. The PC has really helped me as a student. Thanks so much!

This is Viviana,
I am in year 11.
Thank you so much for providing us with the pc. It is really very useful for me and my sisters who are in year 7 And year 2 to complete our study’s and courseworks. It’s very much useful for me as I am going to answer my GCSE this year, and I can complete my course work n google slides.

Hello! Just want to say thanks for the P.C. if working perfectly is will be very helpful for study

Thank you to Nicholas who was able to provide me with a refurbished laptop for a teenager from the Green School for Boys in Brentford. The child is living with his grandparents on the Clayponds Estate as his parents are unable to look after him and his twin sister. The grandparents were concerned about homework and study and the child was unable to borrow a laptop from school. The laptop was greatly received with much appreciation and unknown to me I delivered it on his birthday.

We are currently running a small socially distanced face to face older adult well-being group at St Charles Hospital during COVID with the aim of offering well-being support and positive human contact while also trying to build confidence and basic skills in using computers. We have been given through donation two second hand laptops but we are hoping that we can continue to reach more people in this way and help support and prepare the socially isolated older adults in the community to manage during this COVID crisis. While there are a number of organisations including Openage and the project What the Tech delivered by Imperial College who can provide voluntary help with using computers and tablets, what we are struggling with currently is finding the equipment for people.

Dear Nicholas,
Thank you ever so much for the donation of the PC. It works perfectly and was easy to set up.
This is helping my son immensely. He is now able to focus on his upcoming mock exams leading to his GCSEs next year (2021)
During these surreal times of COVID-19 global pandemic, gifting us this PC has had a direct and a positive impact on our mental health and general well being, knowing this is one less thing to worry about.
I appreciate your time, kindness and generosity.
God bless you!
Penny

Hope this message finds you well. I am a postgraduate student studying in university of West London. I don't have a laptop due to shortage of funds but I could really use the PC for my uni assessments. And I'd be forever grateful if you can donate one of the PC to me. I live in Hounslow Central.(TW3). I walk to College in Ealing every day to save money.. Please help me, god bless you for doing such good deeds.

Hi! My name is Andreea and I am a 22 years old student at Journalism, film and television, at London Metropolitan University. Coming to London was such a big step for me, but an expensive step because my family cannot support me financially and I didn't had enough money to buy myself a laptop that is going to help me with my studies. Amalia made me such a big surprise today, and I really wasn't expected. I needed a laptop for accesing weblearn, microsoft office for my homeworks, watching different movies for university, doing research as journalist. Now I will gladly write my essays and my journals with the help of this laptop and I will take part at our University's online sessions and I don't have enough words to explain how happy and grateful I am right now.

Thank you for your generous gift of a fully working laptop. We are thrilled to have it. I have been able to search and apply for jobs now. The children enjoy using the laptop to support their learning. I hope to pass on your kindness by volunteering in my local community. The laptop has made a huge difference to all of our lives for which we are extremely grateful.

Hi I saw on freegle that you do refurbiahed laptops/ computers for people who are struggling financially. I have been homeless and living on the streeta for the last few years until recently due to strigglong with addiction issues. However recently i have moves things on with my life I am recieving treatment for my addiction issues and have recently moves in to a small studio flat in greenford. I am currently seeking employment however the covid restrictions mean mire and more interviews etc are being conducted online via zoom and other such video calling platforms. As such a basic pc or laptop would be invaluable in my search for employment however as i only have £268 left each month after paying my rent i am never in a position where i am able to afford one. I was therefore wondering if thia is something you couls help me with or direct me to someone who could help it would be much appreciated. Kind regards Keith (sorted)

I just wanted to say thank you for the laptop I received from you today. It is absolutely perfect and in fact far more than I could have hoped for. It is truely an amazing machine that will help me both in my search for work and also with pastimes during this next few months of lockdown. Your kindness and generosity is an example to all of us. Once again thank you so much, having this laptop will change alot of things for me in such positive ways.

Hello, I hope you are well. I’m a student at Dame Alice Owens school and I have been on free school meals since the start of secondary school. I’m currently in year 13 in my final year of school and doing my A-levels this year. I saw this ad and wanted to get in touch as I don’t have access to a laptop at home and this would really help me with being able to do my school work, access my online lessons during the lockdown period and even for the next few years as I undertake further study at university. Therefore should you be able to, then I would really appreciate it if you could save me one of these computers and I could come and collect it whenever is good for you. (sorted)

Hello Nicholas Robinson sir. I hope this message finds you well. I would like to apologize for the late message this evening that you are about to recieve, I could not have waited until tomorrow to send you one. I want to thank you so much for the laptop that you gave me. I used an app called TrashNothing and posted a request for a laptop, and this guy who was so kind told me that he knew you and would help me get me a laptop. In my household there is one barely working computer which is slow and takes a long time to load. There are 2 other of my siblings who need to use it in order to get our work done online for school. As you know due to Covid everything has been online. This has been a struggle. I am blessed to have a phone to work on it unlike some people, but a phone screen is so small and sometimes can not help me research to do my work. Because of you and your wonderful work, I was able to receive a funcitionable laptop that helps me type my work super fast and load the internet searching for thousands of my assignments. I will always remember this kindest act you have done for me. This really shows me there is good people who help others in need in this world. I think it is good karma getting back at me for all the good I have done for others. Now, even more than ever, I help more people who need help and I am always having a third eye open and searching ways to help others. Thank you again and truly you are the best ! I am sending you so much love and good energy and I hope God gives you back all the greatness you have done times 100. Take care!
Warmest Regards, Nazrin
