VideoNow Color Unit (NOT a DVD player) (Alnwickhill EH16)
Expired
1y
- A VideoNow Color unit. (At least, I *think* it is a color unit - not 100% sure about that). I picked this up at a jumble sale many years ago, hoping to use it as a portable DVD player. But it uses an entirely non-standard (different size) type of discs, and as such *CANNOT PLAY DVD DISCS*. I think I took it home, realised a regular DVD wouldn't fit (and that it needed it's own type of discs, which I don't have any of), powered it on to see if it worked (it did come on), then put it away in a cupboard. In hindsight, VideoNow seems to have been a very bad format, with very poor video quality and a limited selection of available titles. See the Wikipedia article ( ) or this YouTube video ( ) for more details. I'm not sure why anyone would want this, but decided to offer it here just in case. Only the unit itself is included, no cables (it can run off batteries, but none are included), and no discs. To avoid someone doing what I did, and taking it thinking it is a DVD player, please explicitly acknowledge in your reply that you know it cannot play DVDs. Thanks!

Fax Machine and Copier (Alnwickhill EH16)
Gifted

- After several no-shows, last chance before this goes to recycling. Samsung SF-350 Inkjet Fax Machine. Powers up fine, and appears to go through the motions when asked to copy a page - but the output page is blank, presumably because it is out of ink. Fax functions haven’t been tested as I no longer have a phone line! It takes M55 Samsung ink, which still seems to be available to buy. The original documentation, shown in the picture, seems to have been misplaced but I will try to look it out if necessary. A power cable is included.

Household Electricity Monitor (Alnwickhill EH16)
Gifted
1y
- A household electricity monitor, provided by Scottish Gas (although should work with any electricity supplier) around 10 years ago. This is pre Smart Meter, and has largely been made redundant by Smart Meters: you attach it to your electricity meter and it tells you your total household electricity consumption. I think I turned it on once ten years ago, realised I didn't want the hassle of installing it, and packed it away in its box again. Since then it's been unused. Comes with everything that it would have originally come with, including the instruction manual.

Portable Radio / Cassette Player (Alnwickhill EH16)
Gifted
1y
- Panasonic RX-D26 portable CD / Radio / Cassette tape player. Please note that the CD part of the player does not work - I have tried multiple discs, but none of them work. However, the radio (FM and AM) and the cassette tape player both seem to work fine, so if you wanted just a cassette player, or just a radio, this would do. It is in rather dirty condition, and could do with a thorough clean. Included is the unit itself, and a power cable. I don't know if it would originally have had a remote, but if it did I don't have it.

CD / Cassette Tape / Radio / Minidisc Stereo (Alnwickhill EH16)
Gifted
1y
- A Sony SMT-CP500MD "Micro Hi-Fi Component System". A single unit with the ability to play cassette tapes, CDs, a radio, and minidiscs. I have tested the CD, tape and radio functions and they all seem to work fine, although I couldn't get the rewind / fast forward on the cassette to work (it has the ability to play both sides without the need to flip the cassette, and that seems to work fine). I have not tested the minidisc player, since I have no minidiscs. It is a MDLP (long play system), and has the ability to record minidiscs, not just play them, so could be a decent system if it actually works! Unfortunately I don't have the speakers for this unit. It requires a pair of speakers, 6 to 12 ohm impedance, with terminals on the back (see photo). I do however have a pair of Harman Kardon computer speakers, which have a 3.5mm connector and these work fine when plugged into the headphone socket on the front of the Sony Hi-Fi. (This does mean you need two spare plug sockets, one for the Hi-Fi and one for the speakers). If you have your own speakers to use with this, that's fine, and if you want to use the Harman Kardon computer ones, that's fine too. I believe this originally came with a remote control, but I don't have that.

Pentium 3 Computer Setup (Alnwickhill EH16)
Gifted
1y
- A Pentium 3 computer setup, including the computer itself, a keyboard, mouse and monitor. The computer is a Gateway desktop computer, with a 650MHz Pentium 3, 128MB RAM and a 14GB HDD. Ports include USB, Ethernet, Serial and Parallel. It has a CD-ROM drive and a floppy drive. I have wiped the HDD but there is a Windows NT "Workstation 4.0" licence key sticker on the side, which (if you have the appropriate install media) could probably be used to install the original OS. Alternatively, I think Linux and FreeDOS still support the Pentium 3. The monitor is a Dell E151FP 15-inch flat-screen monitor, with a resolution of 1024 by 768. It connects to the PC over VGA. The keyboard is a generic no-brand and the mouse is a Microsoft one. Also included is a power cable for the computer, and a power cable for the monitor. Please note that this computer is over 20 years old and is therefore not suitable for everyday computing tasks (it will not run a modern web browser or other software). Instead it is probably of interest to a collector of old computers, or someone who wants to play old Windows or MS-DOS games (and has the time and patience to set it up accordingly). To avoid wasting everyone's time, please mention you understand this in your reply.

Cassette / Radio / CD player (Alnwickhill EH16)
Gifted
1y
- A couple of months ago I was coming home when I noticed a CD / tape / radio player sitting at the side of the road, ready to be thrown out. I hate waste, so I took it back with me, although I never got round to using it because I already have a machine to play CDs and tapes. I've just tested it briefly, and the CD, cassette and radio all work, with a few caveats. (1) The 'play' button for the tape often needs a firm push to get it to engage. (2) It didn't like a few songs on one of my CDs, so either it has a fault or that CD is a bit scratched (the latter is quite likely as it played a couple of other CDs OK). (3) The display for the CD player (that tells you which track you are on) doesn't seem to work, but you can still use the forward / back buttons to navigate to a specific song. (4) The aerial for the radio has been partially snapped off, although I was still able to pick up FM and AM stations just fine. I also don't have a remote for it - I'm not sure if it would have come with one originally. Included is the unit itself and a power cable.
