Have you got some “stuff” lurking in the back of a cupboard or drawer that’s there because it needs fixing? Buckden’s repair café could be the answer! Skilled volunteers who could help you to mend it will be available in Buckden Village Hall from 1.30-4.30 p.m. on Saturday 5th October. Just bring your item along, e.g. small electrical and electronic devices, jewellery, bicycles, clothing in need of a new zip or other repair, mechanical items, small pieces of furniture, garden tools, etc. and our volunteer repairers will try their best to make your item work again; sadly there are no guarantees. Please note that we cannot repair microwaves or other high-power equipment, nor mobile phones. Repairs are free (a donation to help cover our costs would be much appreciated). Volunteers give up their time to try to help reduce the amount of “stuff” that could easily be repaired from going to landfill and because they like fixing things!
Do feel free to just turn up on the day but we recommend booking to avoid having to wait. For fairness, only one item can be booked per person. A repair may take up to 45 minutes but it's often less than this. We ask that you sit with the repairer whilst they are mending your item. Repairers like to explain what they are doing and why and, in that way, you might be able to fix a problem if it occurs again in the future. Of course, tea, coffee, cakes and other sweet treats will be available to make the wait even more worthwhile!
Bookings can be made via e-mail to buckdenrepaircafe@gmail.com or online by following this link https://forms.gle/3NjojicPWCLyMcVQ7
As all our repairers are volunteers, we do ask that you read our repair agreement which you will need to sign on the day.
This event is being run in partnership with Cambridge Carbon Footprint and is insured by Wessex Insurance.
Buckden Village Hall has a large car park, including blue badge parking and the Hall is accessible for mobility scooters and wheelchairs. If you have any questions, please e-mail us at buckdenrepaircafe@gmail.com or clerk@buckdenpc.org.uk

The Climate Change Mitigation Advisory Group of the Parish Council are working to make a more sustainable future for the village. One of the things we want to do is to reduce the amount of “stuff” that people buy and send to landfill.
We hope that by holding a repair cafe at least twice a year we might be able to start to decrease things bought and disposed off unnecessarily. We also want to provide a community focus for more action on tackling climate change.
